St. Patrick's Day Shamrock (crochet) by Lili Pintea-Reed

Here is a quick St. Patrick's Day shamrock to make for personal wear, or gifts. I've described a version which can be worn as a lapel pin, but you can make it larger by simply continuing to increase the leaves. This works up quickly so that you can make many in a short time. Some other uses might be two sewn together for a sachet, or for use a applique on garments.

Materials: odd ends of green worsted weight yarn number J crochet hook (American)

Directions:

Chain six and join with slip stitch. Each leaf is started on two stitches of this foundation chain.

Row 1: chain 1, single crochet twice in each chain stitch. Row 2: Work even Alternate rows 1 and 2 to make the pointed part.

Body: When you reach a width you like simply work even until you have the body of the leaf shape as desired.

Repeat two more times on remaining foundation chain stitches.

Stem: Put hook through center of foundation chain and chain five stitches -- or more if you increased size of pattern. Single crochet back to center. Break off yarn and pull through loop.

Finishing: Work in ends.
