Quechua or Elf Hat (crochet version)

Ear Flaps.

Lay hat flat with yarn joins facing the back of what will be your finished hat. Find side edge. Center the ear flaps on each side by counting in eight stitches from the side along the bottom. Slip yarn through loop and work 17 stitches along the bottom. Check to make sure you centered properly on the side. Turn.

Row 2: Chain one, and work even. Turn.

Row 3: Chain one crochet two stitches together. Work even until last two stitches of row, and then crochet them together. Turn.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you are decreased to two stitches in the row. Crochet together and then break off yarn and and pull through last loop.

Repeat on other side of hat for second ear flap.

The ear flaps should look like nifty warm triangles.

Finish by working in yarn ends.

Make a tassle and add to top of the hat.

By varying the colors you can make the hats as colorful or plain as you want.
