For thumb knit even the five stitches off stitch holder for six rows. Knit two together. Knit two together again next row. And pull through final stitch. Repeat on other side. When all the knitting is done fold in half down the centerline. Take the same wool used for the ribbing and crochet the all around the mitten joining the free side.
