The Quality of Ancient Textiles

Recently I've noticed that their seems to be a common misconception that textiles in times past were crude and poorly woven. Nothing could be further from the truth. From very early times women would spin and weave very fine thread and cloth. The garments were works of art frequently custom tailored to the individual.

To view sites which demonstrate this concept, you can go to many sites online. Some good views of ancient textiles from 4,000 years ago can be seen at the Chinese Kelt graves.

Views of garments custom woven for particular wearers can be seen at some nice Peruvian Textile Sites:

Tunic
Shroud
Nasca Textiles

If you want to duplicate some of this style of loom created garments you can go to Loom Designed Garments. And to create authentic Japanese custom tailored garments, go here.

These should get you started on the way to making your own custom clothing!
