2. Barbie Dress or Top and Skirt Materials:
  • Fingering or sport weight yarn (fingering looks nicer)
  • number three needles (American)
Top: Cast on 15 st. Knit even until measures 3 inches. Make neck opening - Knit 5 stitches, bind off 5 stitches, knit five. Work on five stitches for 8 rows or one inch depending . Place these five on stitch holder and break yarn. Go to other five stitches and do same until one inch long. Then knit 5 , cast on 5, knit five off stitch holder working in broken off strand. Knit until back matches front. Bind off. Fold in half horozontally. eg on neck edge. Sew sides leaving arm holes to fit doll.

Dress: Make exactly the same -- except the length before neck opening is six inches.

Full Skirt: Cast on 42 stitches knit even for 5 inches. Form waist - Knit 2 together across row. Knit even for 2 rows. Then knit 2 together, yarn over across row. Knit every stitch including YO's and work even for 3 rows. Bind off. Sew back seam. Thread yarn, braid, or ribbon through the holes made by yo's for belt.

Done in metal yarn this makes a nice ball skirt. With the top done in same color you can join them for a ball dress . More free patterns.
