Body:
(MAKE 2) Remember to reverse shaping for each side so you don't get two right halves or just garter stitch the whole thing so it won't matter. Cast on 30 Knit in Stocking stitch and increase every other row until there are 42 stitches. Then increase every 4th row until you have 52 stitches. Divide body into neck, hump, and tail by knitting 10 (Neck) ---bind off two stitches,---knit 26 bind off three --knit nine for tail.
Tail: Knit 8 rows even then decrease one stitch on inside edge (so tail slopes away from body). Knit five rows decrease another on inner edge, knit five more rows and decrease the same, continue to decrease every other row until 2 stitches remain bind off...
Hump: Knit 26 stitches even for 3 rows then start to decrease one stitch at each end of the rows every other row to make triangle shape until 4 stitches remain. Bind off.
Neck: Knit ten neck stitches for 10 rows then decrease one stitch at inner edge, work seven rows and decrease one stitch at inner edge, knit across to front edge and cast on 6 stitches to form chin. Knit even for five rows even. Then bind off six chin stitches. Knit even for 2 rows then decrease on front edge a stitch every other row for three rows bind off.
Head Gusset (middle of sea serpent face): Cast on three stitches. Knit even for three rows then increase at each end of row once (5 stitches). Knit even for 10 rows. Then increase at each end again and knit even 5 rows. Then increase every other row until 15 stitches are on needle. Knit 14 rows. The decrease every other row until 3 remain. Bind off.
Assembly: Place gusset at point of chin. Stich down the 6 mouth stitiches. Then (this is tricky) count 12 rows of gusset and fold in half to make top of mouth (eg. the serpent has a mouth you can open and close). Stitch. Then stitch the rest of the gusset to that side. Repeat gusset stitching on other side.
Stitch neck front side of hump. Leave back open to stuff. Then stitch rest of serpent. Make lining and place inside completed serpent. Stuff. Close lining. Close back hump opening.
