Easy Crochet Drapes by Lili Pintea-Reed

When we bought or older Victorian home last summer, we decided to try and restore it to the original as much as possible. This included authentic drapes for the windows. What I wanted was some nice crochet lace for the front windows, but the price was out of this world. So I decided to make them instead. I've done very little crochet, but I checked out the Crochet Guild of America and gots lots of free advice! http://www.crochet.com/

Materials: baby fingering weight cotton yarn (mine was home spun cotton) H aluminum crochet hook (5.00mm)

Pattern makes two cafe curtins and a valance.

Cafe Panel (make two)

Directions:

Chain 150.

Row 1 and 2: Single crochet whole row.

Row 3 through 60: Chain 6 stitches. *Skip over two stitches and double crochet.* Repeat * until row 60 or until legth you desire is reached.

Row 61: Chain 12. *Skip over 4 stitches and then treble crochet in stitch.* Repeat * until end of row. This makes the holes for treading the work on the drapery rod.

Row 62 through 64: Double crochet the whole row. This produces a firm frill for the top of the curtin.

Valance (Make one)

Chain 300.

Row 1 and 2: Single crochet whole row.

Row 3 through 20: Chain 6 stitches. *Skip over two stitches and double crochet.* Repeat * until row 60 or until legth you desire is reached.

Row 21: Chain 12. *Skip over 4 stitches and then treble crochet in stitch.* Repeat * until end of row. This makes the holes for treading the work on the drapery rod.

Row 22 through 24: Double crochet the whole row. This produces a firm frill for the top of the curtin.

Wash. Starch and block. Thread through rod and hang your lovely rustic looking curtins! I love mine. Someday I may add a pineapple pattern border.
