All sorts of people have asked me to write a pattern for an easy poncho as they are now back in fashion. Here is a super fast one to crochet on a BIG hook! Mine uses all sorts of left overs but you can make one in a single color in wool or acrylic for winter, another in cotton for summer, and an elegant one for evening wear in black silk or angora.
MATERIALS:
K Aluminum American Crochet hook
Assorted worsted weight left overs one pound, or more for bigger poncho
DIRECTIONS:
Double the yarn and chain 68. Slip chain together and with yarn still doubled for strength (this is the collar) work single crochet around twice. Break off the strands of yarn, and add a new color in a single strand. Add yarn scraps as you run out if doing a yarn scrap version. Proceed as:

Row 4: *Double crochet for 16 stitches, work 5 double crochet in next stitch* Repeat ** around work
Row 5:*Double crochet for 20 stitches, work 5 double crochet in next stitch* Repeat ** around work
Row 6:*Double crochet for 24 stitches, work 5 double crochet in next stitch* Repeat ** around work
Row 7:*Double crochet for 28 stitches, work 5 double crochet in next stitch* Repeat ** around work
Row 8:*Double crochet for 32 stitches, work 5 double crochet in next stitch* Repeat ** around work
Row 9: *Double crochet for 36 stitches, work 5 double crochet in next stitch* Repeat ** around work
Row 10:*Double crochet for 40 stitches, work 5 double crochet in next stitch* Repeat ** around work
Row 11: *Double crochet for 44 stitches, work 5 double crochet in next stitch* Repeat ** around work
Row 12:*Double crochet for 48 stitches, work 5 double crochet in next stitch* Repeat ** around work
Row 13: *Double crochet for 52 stitches, work 5 double crochet in next stitch* Repeat ** around work
Row 14:*Double crochet for 56 stitches, work 5 double crochet in next stitch* Repeat ** around work
Row 15: *Double crochet for 60 stitches, work 5 double crochet in next stitch* Repeat ** around work
Row 16: *Double crochet for 64 stitches, work 5 double crochet in next stitch* Repeat ** around work
Row 17: *Double crochet for 68 stitches, work 5 double crochet in next stitch* Repeat ** around work
Row 18: *Double crochet for 72 stitches, work 5 double crochet in next stitch* Repeat ** around work
Row 20: *Double crochet for 76 stitches, work 5 double crochet in next stitch* Repeat ** around work
