My husband (modeling the hat)wanted a hat that was also a scarf. I settled on a super long stocking cap which both keeps his head and neck warm! Materials:
DIRECTIONS:
Cast on 60 stitches to number six needles. Work ten rows in knit one, purl one rib pattern.
Switch to Number eight needles and work in plain stocking stitch until piece measures one foot long.
Second decrease is knitting two stitches together every five stitches. Work even until piece measures four feet long.
Decrease to point is done by knitting two stitches together all around every fifth stitch. Knit six more inches, Then shape the top point by knitting two stitches together every three stitches. Then work next row even. Alternate these two rows until only ten stitches are left on the needles. Pull yarn through the ten remaining stitches. Pull tight and knot off. Seam up back if you worked the hat on two needles instead of on double points. Make pompon and add to end of hat. This took me three evenings to knit -- so you still have time to make it for the Holidays! Here are some more quick patterns for you! Christmas Stocking http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/fibe...
