With the coming of Fall and inclement weather, I needed some extra liners for my pull-on boots, called "Wellies" in Great Britain and Oz. Last year I quickly found the acrylic liners got wet with sweat and became cold and uncomfortable after little time outdoors. So I made up a number of wool liners for them that worked much better. The wool was much softer and wicked the moisture away from the foot surface. They were great!
Here is the pattern in crochet.
Materials:
4 ounces of wool --rough handspun is great!
Number K American crochet hook
Directions:
Chain 14 Stitches.
ROW 1:Double crochet all around the chain and take three stitches in each end of chain stitch to increase.
Row 2: Repeat working all around and increasing by three stitches in each end.
Row 3: Repeat above.
Row 4: Check size against boot bottom. Repeat above if its still too small. OTHERWISE, work even in dc all around.
Row 5: Work even all around in dc.
Row 6: Work even all around in dc.
Instep:
Row 7: Start to fill in foot top by dc ten stitches, and then turn work back to center. Keep working past the center down opposite top edge ten stitches.
Row 8: Work back the full 20 stitches.
Row 9: Decrease by working two stitches together across this instep.
Row 10: Decrease by working two stitches together across this instep.
Boot Top:
Row 11 -25: Work all the way around the opening for the ankle in dc.
Check for fit and bind off yarn.
One boot liner done! Now make the next one! These work up very quickly so make several pairs, as you need dry liners all Fall and Winter. They make great slippers or booties too!
