Push Your Buttons

Of course I thought I would be writing a column about the new president and (pessimist that I am) I thought I would be writing about my unhappiness at W's victory. Instead we're all waiting until at least Saturday and even though I'm still sure that I'm going to be unhappy with the result, I can't say it hasn't been a fun ride.

Rebecca's Pocket says it best when she writes, "It may surprise you to know that this election has given me greater confidence in the American system. Candidates are striving to manipulate the system to their advantage, and the system itself is responding flexibly and, I believe, fairly. I've been very disappointed in some of the decisions made by Floridian civil servants. I have been equally satisfied in the means by which those decisions were derived."

This is history, folks, and you should get yourself a little piece of it. Just think about how fun it will be to bore your grandchildren with stories of the all-nighter you pulled to watch the election not get decided. Lectures go over better when you have visual aids so I'm sharing some links to tacky political souvenirs to keep the young'uns interested. Get 'em now because ABC News says their use is giving way to the onslaught of television ads. Besides, you can't beat 'em for kitsch!

GoreGear.com has the widest variety of buttons I've seen although most of them are pretty tame. Nothing outside of the staid, official buttons but grab one that says "Working Women for Gore" or "Families for Gore" or even one picturing "The Kiss that captured America's heart."

Gore Wins! No New Texans! Well, maybe not, but at least the folks at Tigereye Design had their hearts in the right place.

Political Gifts has buttons document the Florida fiasco. I don't get the "W. for Women" button on their front page (who are they kidding???) but it's the only place selling the Florida buttons that I've found so far.

Share two phenomena in one: this button features Harry Potter and Al Gore. What a team!

Polikicks is the place to go if you haven't been keeping up on your campaign button collection. They have everyone from Teddy to Dick to Bill.

By the way, I can't find much in the way of Hillary buttons; if you know of some online, let me know!!
