Resolution: Mommy, Love ThyselfHappy New Year! So, have you made your resolutions? Ready to firm your thighs, drop those excess pounds, fit into your skinny jeans? Well, if any of those things are on your resolution list I would like to challenge you to erase them and write "love myself whatever my size" instead. Now I'm not telling you to neglect your health. If you have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, need to find time for aerobic exercise, or want to start eating healthier then by all means include some health-enhancing goals among your resolutions. Just remember to take care of your emotional health when you're on the treadmill or sweating' to the oldies! Want some inspirational sites to start you on your goal of self-love? I know we're Feminist Mothers here, but listen to what this feminist man has to say in his Body Image article. If you can't love yourself just because you deserve it, then learn to do it for your kids. Remember that your body attitudes are being passed on to your children. Have you noticed that eating disorders in teen girls have become the norm? Recently I listened to a 15 year old close to me explain her strict, pleasure-denying new way of eating and then watched her parents applaud her for her discipline. When I mentioned this to a friend she said, "That's just how teen girls are so it must be normal." The fact that it's normal is pretty scary.
