Fashion Redux - A Pleading for My Favorite Trends To Return

Anyone can list a ton of trends that they wish would never come back in style. Most of them are ones we wore ourselves (don't you deny it, I've seen the pictures!). But it's much harder to think of trends that we'd like to return to style. Mostly because, if we liked it that much to begin with, it would have become a classic and not a trend or fad. But I can think of a couple that I miss - either for style reasons, or miscellaneous.

*Stocking headbands - Madonna in her "Boy-Toy/Like A Virgin" phase started this one. Sure, it was trashy and ugly, but what a great way to recycle old knee-highs!

*Espadrilles - Those shoes with the canvas tops and the rope bottoms. I miss them. When you wear them, you can almost feel the sand and surf under your feet.

*Full hips - And don't give me that "Giselle has a curvier figure, which means big hips are in!" crap. I mean, hips like Marilyn Monroe. Fuller, curvier, REAL women. All the clothes today are suited for women built like 12-year old boys.

*Crocodile handbags - wait a minute, they ARE back in! Oh happy day, they're so lovely and ladylike.

*Long/maxi coats - I'm sick of the 3/4 coat. I want something dramatic to enter a room with.

*Pale, shimmery makeup - And I'm talking SLIGHTLY shimmery. No one looks good as a disco ball. Technically, this makeup never goes out of style, but I'm sick of seeing the dark, bold lips and smudgy eyes that I can't pull off.

*Very long skirts - they're the only kind of skirt (besides a just-below-the-knee length) that I like. Please, no more short little Ally McBeal-esque skirts everywhere.

*Gray - a neutral color that, again, never goes out of style. But a couple of years ago, gray clothes were everywhere in shades ranging from charcoal to light ash. I love gray. It's got all the versatile, flattering qualites of black without the harsh overtones.
