Fall Fashion Report - Accessories

Clothes are one thing. But no outfit is complete without accessories. They can turn an everyday uniform into a fashion plate, or a fashion victim. But they have to stay current. The best thing about accessories is that they are (for the most part) cheaper than clothing, so it's easier and less expensive to update your accessories than your wardrobe. With that in mind, here are a few key trends I've spotted that will be big in the upcoming months. Start shopping..... now.

In jewelry, expect to see a lot of gold. When I first reported on this trend a few weeks ago, I was more than reluctant. But I have since indulged in the trend and bought some gold jewelry - a gold stiff hoop necklace, and some earrings. I'm so weak. Also, remember those fabric wrist cuffs? These are like their angry cousin - leather rock 'n roll style wrist cuffs, complete with metal studs. Coach and Hermes have already sold out of their versions.

Here's hoping you have strong ankles, because high heels were everywhere. We also saw a lot of 40's retro touches - T-straps, crocodile pumps (complete with matching purse), ankle straps, stacked heels, and high-heeled boots.

Those dinky little Fendi baguette bags are beyond over. The big news in purses (besides the crocodile handbag to match your pumps) is the larger purse. I don't mean a huge beach tote-style purse. It's reminiscent of a bowling bag. Marc Jacobs' version has been flying out of the stores. I picked up a vintage one myself - just big enough to hold my CD player and a paperback, but just clunky enough that I feel like a doctor. Where's my crocodile handbag?

And since I consider beauty to be just as powerful an accessory as any other, here's the focus for hair and makeup: It's continuing with the 40's glamour theme. Neatly tailored but feminine hairstyles (think pageboys and Veronica Lake-style waves)and dark red nails and lips.

All of these will go great with your tweeds and tailored suits and wine colors that will be huge in clothing this fall. Happy shopping!
