The Internet is a vast place filled with something for everyone's interest. Many sites are devoted to the Fantasy genre in its many aspects. One such aspect is the sub-genre of Mythic Fantasy in fiction, poetry and art. This sub-genre has its roots in mythology, folklore and fairy tales. One Internet site devoted to this subject is Terri Windling's Endicott Studio. The site has articles, poetry, art work, stories, links, etc. for readers to explore mythic themes. Recently the site was redone with many new things added for the Fantasy explorer.

A major source of interest at the site is the bimonthly Journal of Mythic Arts. The first issue of the new journal contains two articles on folklore about "Changelings" by Terri Windling and "Of Men and Mud" by Heinz Insu Fenkl. Both articles provide in depth coverage of their topics. There is a reprint story of a modern fairy tale in "Wolf's Heart" by Tappan King. It tells the story of a brother and sister raised by wolves. The story is bittersweet with a good ending like old fairy tales. Two poems an an article on a special performance group rounds out the new journal.

Another redone part of the site is The Endicott Scuttlebutt. This part contains reading lists on mythic fiction, epic fantasy and many other book lists pertaining to Fantasy. Readers can find recommended books that would be of interest to them. These reading lists are helpful by narrowing down a large genre to a manageable level of good books. Archives of previous articles are found through another link. There are links to articles by the contributors to the site in other areas.

A new venture for the site is a link to the Interstitial Mythic Art. The new section is expanded, providing some new material to make the Interstitial Art Foundation grow. This part of the web site has an explanation about what interstitial art is and articles on the theory of such art, which includes writing, visual arts and performance art. Members of this group want to promote the cross genre work on the fringe.

The Endicott Studio site is a wonderful source on the Internet for Fantasy readers. At this site can be found articles on mythology and folklore, stories, poetry and art dedicated to the mythic roots to be found in Fantasy works. Also, one can find reading lists for new books to read as they expand their horizons in the genre. Explore this site at your leisure to gain a different perspective on the genre of Fantasy.
