Change is all around us every day. It ranges from subtle changes in our everyday lives to events that change the world. Change is inevitable and the theme of the Fantasy novel Dragonstorm by Graham Edwards. This is the second novel of an Animal Fantasy trilogy about dragons. The book continues the story of Fortune and his friends in a changing world with an unknown future. Different characters, a chaotic setting and an interesting plot makes Dragonstorm an entertaining read.
The dragons must deal with a chaotic setting, which brings out the best and worst in them. It is a great source of conflict. With the world turning, everything is in chaos. Mountain ranges crumble. New oceans are formed. Large glaciers melt in a warming climate. The last magic in the world creates new life. These events change the dragons. They do not know if they will have a place in the new world. Mr. Edwards creates memorable images with vivid descriptions of the changes. He uses all the senses to bring his setting alive. Finally, an interesting plot combines with the characters and setting to provide a suspenseful tale. The main plot is the dragons trying to survive in a violently changing world. Two groups set out on quests, one to find their child and another to free imprisoned dragons. Both groups navigate a dangerous world of changing geography. They must also contend with two opposing foes. One is a dragon obsessed with gaining immortality. The other group is the basilisks, seeking death and to lose their immortality. Mr. Edwards deftly weaves these plot threads into a coherent adventure that keeps the reader turning pages. Dragonstorm by Graham Edwards is the second book of a trilogy that provides a satisfying read. Its different characters, chaotic setting and interesting plot makes the book very entertaining for readers. Dragons are inspiring viewpoint characters in this Animal Fantasy.
