Fantasy Gifts for Christmas

A book about Lord Hawhaw
Halloween and Thanksgiving are over. It's the time of year when we enter the fantasy world of Christmas. We enter this world to commence the epic battle of crowds, weather, parking and sales to buy gifts for family and friends. It's a battle that compares with some of the battles in Epic Fantasy. Still, we brave these things to have a wonderful holiday season. While shopping, we are faced with the quandary of what kind of gifts to buy. In this article I hope to give you a few suggestions to help.

Books are good gifts. With the popularity of the "Harry Potter" books, the Fantasy genre is enjoying a strong surge right now. There are many books that would make great gifts.

In Epic Fantasy there are many entertaining books. Here are a few suggestions that I recommend:

The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien
Prophecy by Elizabeth Haydon
The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan
A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
The Summer Tree by Guy Gavriel Kay
The Riddle Master by Patricia McKillip

Some suggestions from the other sub genres in Fantasy are:

Moonlight and Vines by Charles de Lint
Sailing to Sarantium by Guy Gavriel Kay
Wheel of the Infinite by Martha Wells
The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley

If your kids have sailed through the "Harry Potter" books, here are a few suggestions for them:

A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. LeGuin
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis
Over Sea, Under Stone by Susan Cooper
The Book of Three by Lloyd Alexander
Red Moon, Black Mountain by Joy Chant

Your choices in Fantasy are not limited to books. If you have someone on your list who likes dragons, here are a couple of suggestions. Try Dancing Dragon at http://www.dancing-dragon.com for different things of dragons from books to jewelry. For other Fantasy things like wizards, fairies, etc., try http//www.fantasy-mall.com for posters and stuff. Collectibles can be fun too. Enchantica is a line of collectible porcelain dragons of different types. They are colorful pieces that can grace your homes. Check out their web site at http://www.enchantica.com for some delightful things.

Videos, DVD's and CD's make great gifts too. For movies I suggest the following:

"Dragonheart"
"Dragonheart A New Beginning"
"The 10th Kingdom"
"Arabian Knights"
"Gladiator"
"The 13th Warrior"

On the CD front I suggest the "Book of Secrets" sung by Loreena McKennit or any CD by Avalon Rising.

Hopefully you'll find some ideas in this article that are worthwhile. Choosing gifts for family and friends can be very hard at this time of year. So enter the fantasy world of Christmas with care and preparation. Have a safe foray into the battle of shopping.
