No article can do justice to an author like Andre Norton. She is a World Fantasy Award life time acheivment winner and Nebula Grand Master as well as prolific author of Fantasy and Science Fiction. Her career has spanned close to fifty years. In that time she has given readers many contributions to the Fantasy genre for children and adults. Her works revolve around young people, animals and accomlishing a goal. Ms. Norton's books have characters that undergo changes to become stronger. Her themes involve the decent treatment of animals, diversity and other emotional issues. She tells compelling stories without the use of profanity or violence. Some of her Fantasy works will be covered in this article.

Andre Norton is best known for her "Witch World" series. Witch World came out in 1963 and exploded into many books over the years. Ms. Norton continued to write in this world to please her fans for many years. The first book introduced a Fantasy world of conflict and witches. A man from our world, Simon Tregarth, travels to this world where he meets Jaelithe. In this world women have the magic and the men are warriors. Together these characters must fight to save their world. Further books explore the different aspects and history of this world.

Mirror of Destiny is a Fantasy about a conflict between the human world and a Fairy world. A woman, Twilla, wins the King's lottery and must get married by force. She must enter an enchanted forest with a warrior and his blind son. The addition of a magical mirror spurs this vivid Fantasy into a remarkable conclusion.

Many of her books for children have believable characters and entertaining stories too. Some of them can be enjoyed by adults. Her "Magic" books are her most famous. One of them is Steel Magic. It tells the story of three children drawn into the world of King Arthur. The two brothers and sister are sent on separate quests to find and return various objects belonging to King Arthur. They must use their wits to succeed in this delightful tale of adventure and overcoming fears.

One of her recent books is Scent of Magic. This story involves an interesting magical talent. Magic can be good or evil, but comes from plants and scents. Willadene is a young scullery maid who has the magical sense to smell good and evil auras. She is apprenticed to an herbalist. Soon she is drawn into a world of court intrigues, quests and a battle against an evil god. Ms. Norton weaves a new twist of magical talent and interesting characters into an entertaining story.
