Realms of Fantasy is a bimonthly fantasy magazine from Sovereign Media Co., Inc. It is a full-color magazine on slick paper containing fiction, book reviews, columns and other things of interest to fantasy readers. The magazine is edited by the experienced editor Shawna McCarthy. Fantasy readers will find a wonderful array of items to keep them engrossed for hours in this magazine.

One of the best features is a column on mythology and folklore. This feature is written by Terri Windling or various authors. Ms. Windling is a knowledgeable expert of fantasy. (She edits the annual Year's Best Fantasy and Horror anthology with Ellen Datlow.) Her columns focus on different aspects of mythology and folklore that influences fantasy writers. The columns are informative and provide other resoruces where readers can explore the topic further.

Another feature in every issue is an article about a Fantasy artist. Each article has colorful examples of the featured artist's works. Readers discover interesting facts about how these talented people came to work in the fantasy field and what inspires them. Some of the artists featured have been Brian Froud, Mark Wagner, Stephen Youll and many others.

The fiction is excellent with a lot of depth. It ranges from border line horror to traditional fantasy. Authors vary from established ones like Robert Silverberg, Tanith Lee and Darrell Schweitzer to new ones like William R. Eakin (his Redgunk stories are not to be missed). The editor does an excellent job of providing interesting and different stories that stand out.

Each issue has a column on movies or television shows. The articles focus on a single movie or show, or on a general topic. Recent articles have been about fantasy movies in general, "The Crow:Stairway to Heaven" and "Xena." In the latest issue, the article is about the popularity of witches and how they have changed through movie and tv history. There is usually something of interest to any lover of fantasy.

Realms of Fantasy is an excellent magazine for Fantasy lovers of all kind. It's colorful pages takes the reader to many fabulous worlds of fantasy. This is a great place for those readers who don't have time for books to get a fantasy fix without too much time to spend. I would like to know what other readers of this magazine think. Until next week.

*The magazine doesn't have a web page yet, but you can visit "http://www.endicott-studio.com" to read some of the mythology articles and see some great artwork by some of the artists.
