Robin Hobb, Reincarnated Author

Reincarnation exists. At least for authors it does. Some authors write under different names because they work in different genres and do not want to confuse their various fans. Other authors must write under a new name due to selling practices of their books that diminish their sales, so they must reincarnate their careers under new names. One of these Fantasy authors is Robin Hobb who is also Megan Lindholm. She is a talented author that writes entertaining books under either name.

Under Megan Lindholm, her most famous book is the Wizard of the Pigeons. Set in the city of Seattle, Washington where magic exists, it flows quietly and only certain people with talents can use it. Wizard, a homeless man, possesses the Knowing, but his magic comes with a price. He cannot have more than a dollar in his pockets, remain celibate, and protect the pigeons. He faces a growing evil menace that stems from his past. This is a memorable Urban Fantasy for readers brought to life by the author's vivid imagination.

Harpy's Flight is the first book of the Windsingers quartet. The author uses Gypsy lore to tell magical tales of two characters. Ki flees from harpies that are pursuing her. She meets Vandien who saves her from her plight. their story continues in the second book The Windsingers In this book, roles are reversed as Ki must save Vandien. Two books complete the series: The Limbreth Gate and Luck of the Wheels. Ms. Hobb demonstrates her talent to create books with strong characters and interesting plots in this series.

Another book is set in the time of the early history of mankind. Reindeer People tells the story of Tillu who lives on the edge of her tribe with her son. She is a healer protecting Kerlew from the tribe's corrupt shaman. She flees with her son to the harsh tundra to battle wolves and keep away from the shaman. The author brings an interesting part of history to life with gritty realism and fantasy elements. This book has a sequel called Wolf's Brother.

The switch to her new pen name, Robin Hobb, came with a new fantasy world. Assassin's Apprentice is the first book of The Farseer trilogy. FitzChivalry Farseer is the main character of the books. He is the illegitimate son of the king and trained as an assassin. Along with his training, Fitz has some magical talents. With the king's Fool, he is drawn into a struggle to save the Six Duchies from conquerors. This book is followed by Royal Assassin and Assassin's Quest. Ms. Hobb creates a vivid new world with court intrigues, strange creatures and interesting magic.
