Week 12 in Fantasy Football

As many of you know, the playoffs are fast approaching in fantasy leagues across the country. This is a time to finalize your rosters and make any last second deals before the trading deadline. In one of my leagues, a scoring only league, I made such a deal thinking it would put me back on top after dropping two straight games. I sent QB Donovan McNabb, RB Justin Watson, and WR Torry Holt to my brother’s team for QB Brian Griese and WR Amani Toomer. What a steal I thought. Griese is a top five QB this season and Toomer is just starting to heat up. Then boom, Griese goes down with a separated shoulder and Toomer gets knocked out against the Rams with a concussion. Now I am back searching the waiver wires. Well, I’ve got to move on and prepare for Week 12 in the NFL. Here are my picks for this week. Remember, the Seahawks are off.

Quarterback: These are good plays this week. 1) Jeff Garcia, 49ers. This guy can do it through the air or with his legs. 2) Daunte Culpepper, Vikings. He bounced back in a big way last week and he is home against the banged up Panthers. 3) Steve McNair, Titans. Expect them to take out their frustration against the lowly Browns. 4) Jeff George, Redskins. He will throw often against the Rams secondary. 5) Trent Dilfer, Ravens. I never thought he would make this list, but he is playing well and the Cowboys are hurting. Others to consider include Donovan McNabb, Trent Green, Steve Beuerlein, Peyton Manning and Jeff Blake.

These players should be on your bench this week. 1) Jake Plummer, Cardinals. He is inconsistent and playing in big, bad Philly. 2) Troy Aikman, Cowboys. He needs to retire. 3) Vinny Testaverde, Jets. No comebacks this time. 4) Shaun King, Bucs. The Bears D has come on of late and it will be cold in Chicago. 5) Brett Favre, Packers. He is banged up so I would sit him this week. Others not to start include Doug Pedersen, Charlie Batch, Shane Matthews, and Mark Brunell.

Runningback: I like these guys this week. 1) Stephen Davis, Redskins. He should do well against the Rams. 2) Robert Smith, Vikings. The guy is fun to watch, especially on turf. 3) Jamal Lewis, Ravens. Cowboys have little run defense. 4) Jerome Bettis, Steelers. The Bus will roll through the Jags so-called defense. 5) Edgerrin James, Colts. He is a start every week no matter what. 6) Charlie Garner, 49ers. He is a threat both running and catching the ball. 7) Terrell Davis, Broncos. He will get the call a lot now that Griese is out. 8) Lamar Smith, Dolphins. This guy is the real deal. Others who should do well include Darnell Autry, Jamal Anderson, Ahman Green, and Eddie George.
