The Top 30 Wide Receivers for 2002

Continuing my series of pre-season articles ranking the best fantasy players by position, I now take a look at the top wide receivers for 2002.

1. Randy Moss - Just how good is Randy Moss? People looked at his 2001 season as disappointing, yet he gained 1233 yards and caught 10 TD passes. About 95% of the WRs in the NFL would love to post similar stats. Viking coach Mike Tice is committed to getting Moss the ball more. The only question is will the Vikings number two WR be able to take the pressure off Moss? A first round pick.

2. Terrell Owens - Owens continues to get even better, with 1412 yards and a whopping 16 TDs in 2001. Is it possible to match or exceed those numbers? Owens appears to be in a better frame of mind this year. He still doesn't have much help from J.J. Stokes, but it looks like he doesn't need it.

3. Marvin Harrison - With all due respect to Randy Moss, Harrison has probably been the best WR over the past three seasons, and certainly its most consistent. His three year averages of 1533 yards and 14 TDs demonstrate a remarkably durable and dependable WR. May lose some numbers if Tony Dungy goes for a more ball-controlled type offense.

4. Rod Smith - The loss of No. 2 WR Ed McCaffrey last season did nothing to diminish Smith's production. Smith has not put together five straight 1000+ yard seasons, and had his highest reception total with 113. With McCaffrey back, don't expect 113 catches, but expect another strong season. A 2nd pick.

5. David Boston - It would be scary how good this guy would be if he were playing with Kurt Warner or Peyton Manning. Probably the most physically intimidating WR in the NFL. He averaged 100 yards per game in 2001. His TD total is increasing each season and I expect him to get into double digit TD receptions for the first time this year.

6. Tim Brown - Talk about consistency, 2001 was Brown's ninth consecutive 1000 yard plus season. Younger guys continue to get draft higher, yet still do not match Brown's productivity. Take him high one more year. After the 2002 season, the Raiders will likely go into a rebuilding mode.

7. Tory Holt - Holt took over as the number one WR for the Rams last year and responded with 1363 yards and 7 TDs. You'd still like to see him score a bit more and I suspect that he will this year. Look for 9 to 10 TDs out of Holt this season.
