The Top 30 Fantasy Running Backs for 2002

In my last article I took at look at my list of top 20 fantasy QB's for the 2002 season. This time, I run down the top 30 fantasy RBs.

1. Marshall Faulk - Until someone comes along to knock Faulk off the top spot, there's no question he's not only the top RB, but probably the first overall pick in any fantasy draft. Despite missing two games in each of the past couple of seasons, he's still scored over 20 TDs in both seasons. His double threat value as a runner and receiver makes him an incredible threat.

2. Ahman Green - Green rates just slightly higher than Alexander due to the fact that he has Brett Favre in front of him. On top of that, Green is also the bestter receiver. Green proved his 2000 season was no fluke with an equally impressive year in 2001. A top 5 pick.

3. Shaun Alexander - Alexander broke out last year and had a monstrous season with 1318 yards rushing and 16 TDs. An amazing stat about Alexander is that despite running for over 1300 yards, he only had four games over 100 yards. The loss of Trent Dilfer puts greater emphasis on Alexander to perform. Should be picked in the top 7 or 8 picks.

4. Ricky Williams - Williams managed to play all 16 games for the first time in 2001 and responded with 1245 yards rushing and 7 TDs. Williams should excel in Dave Wannstedt's ball-control offense and increase his scoring by at least 5 TDs. Worth a late 1st round pick.

5. Curtis Martin - Is this guy the most underrated RB in the league or what? You almost never hear about him, yet he has ran for over 1000 yards in each of his seven pro seasons. Furthermore, Martin is durable, and has not missed a game since the 1998 season. Martin would be so much more dangerous if he were more involved in the passing game. Still worthy of a late first round pick.

6. Corey Dillon - Ahh...if only Dillon were a better receiver. This guy may well be the best pure runner going right now but has to contend with little or no help around him. While he still doesn't catch the ball much, he did have 3 TD catches last season to go along with 10 rushing TDs. Dillon's biggest weakness in inconsistency. He typically has a poor game after having a big one, and does not perform will on the road. A 2nd round pick.
