Playoff Drive Could Mean Late Season Boost

With playoff going on in most head to head Roto leagues, owners are looking for any type of production boost they can get.

One place to look are at players who are themselves on teams fighting for a playoff spot themselves or for better playoff positioning.

In many cases, the real change is simply that coaches will leave starters on the floor longer in an attempt to secure a playoff spot. That's good if you've got those guys and bad if you've got a bench player.

Here's a rundown of teams and players who's values may be either slightly better or worse due to the playoff drive:

Elden Campbell - Hornets: Brad Miller's knee injury created more playing time for Charlotte's big men. Campbell heretofore disappointing season has been somewhat revived by the playing time boost, with an especially impressive showing on the Hornets recent West Coast swing.

Orlando Bench - Even though they've gotten as far as they have by using almost their entire bench, the temptation for rookie coach Doc Rivers must be to try to ride his starters a little longer than he has.

Grant Hill - Detroit: Even though everyone in Detroit denies that Grant had anything to do with Alvin Gentry's firing, if Hill had stood up for him, Gentry would still be pacing the sidelines. Fair or not, the onus is on Hill to take Detroit into the playoffs. Expect more minutes and especially, more shots.

Sam Cassell - Bucks: The decline in Sam's play coincided with the Buck's precipitous decline. George Karl is going to have to relight Cassell if he hopes to reach the postseason. Expect more minutes and more scoring.

Antoine Walker - Celtics: He is coming off his most productive week in months. True or not, Pitino and Walker are joined as the symbols of the Celtic franchise, in order for them to survive both are going to have to improve production. Celtics have made a run at home but have an unfavorable home/road split the rest of the season.

Jamie Feick - Nets: Jayson Williams' latest injury means Feick's rebounding minutes remain intact. Jim McIlvaine can't stay out of foul trouble so Jamie should continue to see decent minutes as the Nets' try to battle back from that horrendous start.

Kevin Garnett - T-Wolves: Flip Saunders said at the All-Star break that he hoped to get his meal ticket some rest in the 2nd half of the season. It ain't happening.
