Do you have a special someone in your life that has a passion for reading speculative fiction? Are you thinking of giving a book this holiday season? Great idea, just be careful how you go about selecting that wonderful present. If you don't read the genre yourself, ask for help. There is nothing worse than getting volume three in a series of five, or receiving the new edition when you already own the first edition. If you aren't sure what title to choose, consider a gift certificate for a sure fire success.
Avoid those crazed holiday shoppers, shop from home, it's easier than ever. There are numerous bookstores on the internet, and this holiday season they are geared up and ready to ship. First let's check what's up at Amazon.Com? It's obvious that the holiday spender should stop at the Amazon Gift Center to look for the perfect book or send a Gift Certificate. When you're done spending you can even have your book gift wrapped. I hope you didn't spend all your allowance there, because it's on to Barnes and Noble. This web outlet hasn't been around as long as the other guys, but sure enough we find the Barnes and Noble Holiday Gift Center right up front. There are assistants to help you find the right title and a promise of gift wrapping (no link found). Alas, there are no gift certificates.
A Pricing Comparison:
Not much to compare there. Looks to me like the giants are still setting the standard for web pricing.
A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller Jr.
The Prestige by Christopher Priest
If you're looking for something truly unique and different, why don't you revisit my July 25, 1997 article, Searching for OOPs: Rare and Out of Print Books. It's packed with tips for finding that needle in the haystack! Oh, and for you passionate sf readers out there... stand up, or rather, sit down, type out your list and post it clearly for all to see. Who knows if you've been good (maybe Santa), but we want to know what you want this holiday season. Go To Page: 1 2
