Check out the library. Don't overlook the library as a source of materials. If you're visiting a major tourist spot, you can get guidebooks to whet your appetite. You can also read newspapers from "foreign" cities, read restaurant reviews, and look for kids' books on that area of the country or world.

For the wee folks. Little ones have a hazy concept of time, so the idea that you're leaving for Disney in "two weeks" doesn't mean much to them. Make the countdown concrete by preparing a "countdown chain." Make rings using strips of construction paper about two inches wide, then tape together a chain of rings, one for each day before the big trip. Each day, have your child rip a link off the chain, seeing the time until D-day (departure day) decrease!
