Does This Sound Like Your Toddler?

I love my computer. The fact that I have the world at my fingertips and that I can find answers to most of my questions is a great time-saving concept to me. I use my computer for so many things from email, research, writing, and getting information on everything from raising my kids to buying items. I also use it as a tool to teach my children. I did not know that when I first introduced my toddler to the computer that I would have to fight tooth and nail to get a chance to use it!

Evenings are usually the best time for me to get on-line, after the baby is in bed. I try to give my toddler some "down" time before bed by letting her watch...who else? Barney. If he doesn't make the cut, we try coloring or puzzles. Unfortunately this is not how my evenings work anymore. All night long I hear, "Mommy, I want to play the 'puter!"

My computer is set up in the den (the only wall in the house not cluttered with children's toys, swings, etc.) I desperately want to move it -- anywhere! The garage, attic, closet, or even the bathroom would work for me. Any room that I can hide behind the door, or better yet - lock it! I can see her now beating down the door and screaming, "I want to play the 'puter!!!" If that didn't work the little smarty would probably figure out how to take the doorknob off or even trample her little brother trying to run to get to it before I do.

Much like the television, I try to limit the time she uses it. There comes a time in our parental lives where we breakdown and give in just so that we don't have to hear the whining. Oh, that whining...it makes my skin crawl just thinking about it! I am not a bad parent for giving in occasionally, just a smart one. Who wants to listen to that? We all know how these little tornadoes like to run our lives and I know she purposely makes it where I cannot concentrate on my work. Speaking of that, I must go and relinquish the throne to her.

Don't get me wrong, I firmly believe the computer is a great asset for kids, but I didn't realize that she would love it as much or more than I.
