Upon first sight you have the feeling that your toddler will love Jump Start Toddlers ($19.95). When you enter you are taken directly to the playroom, which every child loves. Watch the toys and furniture come to life as you click on them. Seven of the toys will take you to different activities for your child. Giggles the chipmunk directs your child and offers encouragement along the way. Wonderful lyrics will keep your child interested in the program as well. You can even put the software cd in any audio compact disc player and your child can listen to ten songs from the program.

The first activity is called the ABC's. Obviously, this teaches your child the alphabet by clicking on the letters with the mouse or by using the correct keys on the keyboard. The child will see the letter along with pictures and words that correspond to that letter. All the pictures are animated to keep your child interested in learning. Your child will learn to associate letters with words as well as memory and vocabulary with this game.

The second activity is called Numbers 1 - 10. This activity teaches using the same concept as the ABC's, except that you have the numbers 1 - 10 instead of the alphabet.

In the Shape Game your child will learn his shapes and colors. Clicking on the different shapes and watching them bounce around the screen while the name of the shape and color are being spoken, provide a wonderful learning atmosphere for your child. This activity teaches hand-eye coordination, mouse clicking and the ability to recognize shapes, which is a pre-reading skill.

Musical Instruments is wonderfully orchestrated and teaches the toddler instruments that include the flute, drum, violin, piano and more. Have your child click on the instrument to hear a solo performance.

Peak-a-Boo game teaches cause and effect by having your child hit the keyboard or move the mouse to find the animal hiding behind leaves, balloons, or even coins. Once the animal is completely uncovered, it will sing a catchy little song. The song will also teach your child about the kind of animal it is and facts about it.

Play with the Songbook to find surprises hidden within the pictures of nine different animals in their surroundings. This game features great animation and sounds and puts labels on the word to teach print concepts, which is a first step to reading. It also introduces clicking of the mouse.
