Last week our feature was focused on ways to feed your family well, for less money. A main theme in saving money on food is to stock up your pantry and freezer with basic foodstuffs that you've purchased at either wholesale or on-sale prices. Saving money is important for families. Saving Time is just as important for many families in the fast-paced 1990s. This week we will point you to sites and recipes, as well as offer some tips on how to feed your family well without spending a lot of time in the kitchen.
Tips for Saving Time
The secret for saving food preparation time is organization and a little careful planning. Ways to do this include:
Find some quick and easy recipes that your family enjoys

Shop with purpose - plan your week's menu ahead of time, then shop for everything all at once, when the grocery stores are not busy.
Once or twice a week, make a large batch of time-consuming meals, then freeze half, for a quick meal on a busy day.
Keep a plate of chopped vegetables and some dip wrapped and handy in the fridge for quick snacks or garnish.
Recipe of the Week
Almost Instantaneous Corn Chowder
A soul-satisfying 10 minute soup from The Book of Ramen by Ron Konzak.
Ingredients
1 package Ramen noodles, broken up
1 flavor packet (chicken or beef)
2 cups water
16 oz can cream-style corn
1/4 tsp powdered ginger
1/4 tsp curry powder
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp garlic Powder
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup Cheddar cheese, grated
Pepper to taste
Parsley for garnish (optional)
Directions
In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
Add ramen and flavor packet and cook for 5 minutes.
Mix in cream-style corn, ginger, curry powder, onion and garlic powder and milk.
Heat over medium heat to a gentle simmer, do not allow to boil.
When all the ingredients are heated through, add the grated cheese and mix until it melts.
Add pepper to taste.
Adjust with more milk if soup is too thick.
Garnish with a sprig of parsley.
