Family History For the Holidays

On the other hand, you may be wondering if there are ways you can share your love of your heritage with other family members. One of the following ideas might inspire you as you are making out your gift lists.

  1. Have a copy of your family tree attractively matted and framed and give to your siblings.
  2. Finally have your complete family history published, and give out free copies to all of your relatives. (Of course, this assumes you’ve got unlimited funding, and that you’ve actually got a complete family history!)
  3. Buy archival scrapbooks for some of your favorite family members, then periodically give them “heritage” scrapbook pages that they can insert into the scrapbooks.

Finally, remember that the whole point of researching your genealogy is because family is important to us. All too often, we get so caught up in the shopping, wrapping, and overall rush that we don’t enjoy ourselves. So take advantage of the time off this holiday season and enjoy your family. If September 11 taught any of us anything, it is that time can be short, and lives and plans can be unbelievably changed by events out of our control. This year, talk to one another, tell an old story, laugh at silly jokes. Celebrate your family!
