What are your family priorities? What do you want to accomplish with your spouse or kids?
This site is dedicated to Family Fun, but I think we all need to ask ourselves every once in a while where we stand and what our goals in life are!
I read am article in the Family Circle August 1998 Edition about a father wondering about spending time with his son! His son asked him if he would be home in time for dinner that evening and the father said he would. The son clapped and cheered. The father wondered all day long what his son had in store for him when he got home. What kind of activity did he want his father to play? When he got home that evening he realized his son didn't want to "play" with him. He just wanted his presence felt during the evening.
My kids will run around the minute Dad comes through the door after a day at work and just as soon as he changes his clothes the kids are gone and out the door. My son will check in every so often to just make sure Dad is still home, then he'll head out the door again to play. Just having Dad's presence in the home is enough for my kids to feel secure. The same goes with the Mom in the family. I've seen it many times!
Being an Available Parent Is What Matters Most
Dr. Galinsky of Family Circle magazine says "Regardless of how domestic chores are allocated, the overriding question when it comes to the health of all families, dual or single income, is how parents relate to their kids. The two most important things parents do in raising their children are to be crazy about them and to be responsive to them," And he concludes with, "kids do well when their parents spend time talking and reading to them and are able to read their cues. People think working is good or bad, but it's not. It depends on the parents' emotional availability. All the studies that have been done on developmental psychology show that warmth, caring, and responsiveness are what's most important." (Article from Family Circle July 1998.)
These are a list of sites that deal with Family priorities and how to get a grasp on Family ideas! Have fun looking at them and if they work for your family, GREAT!
