It's nearly that time of year again and one of my most beloved holidays. St. Patrick's Day "Do we get the day off of school?" my kids quizzically ask me. "Hmmmmmm" I say rubbin my head as if really trying to decide. Should they have a day off of school? Nawwww, they can attend their classes which will ensure the visit of the Leprechauns: a family tradition.
Dinner is a treat as we eat Green Jello (A mormon tradition, minus the carrots) and green mashed potatoes served beside green eggs and ham. Ok, not really green eggs and ham, but green grilled chicken and green corn. Our beverage of choice is green lemon lime served on the rocks. To top this wonderful meal out, we eat mint ice cream served dripping with chocolate syrup. Can you say YUM? Well, there are many recipes we could chose from, but we'll stick with our main stay and our family tradition. We are into the holidays and enjoy each one spent as a family, even this St. Patricks day can be a family holiday as we spend it eating in candle light with celtic music playing in the background. If we're lucky we just may catch a glimpse of great, great, granddad sitting in the old rocking chair ready to tell us one of his many "Irish Ghost Tales". Some might be a bit much for the wee one's, but for those who are older; hold onto your hats. Go ahead, act like a kid today. Enjoy this fun day with the whole family. Send cards to extended family members and let them know you are thinking of them while you celebrate your heritage on this St. Patricks day. After all, aren't we all a wee bit Irish today? Pucker up: Kiss us; We're Irish! or better yet: Kiss the Blarney Stone if you so dare!
