The New Year 2002 is upon us. Wow! 2001 was a year to remember for the whole world. A year to remember our loved ones and cherish the memories we have of one another. It was a year to draw closer to each other and share the simple things in life.

As this New Year approaches gather the family together and make a family time capsule. Gather personal items of each otherss that have special meaning. Place them in a plastic bag wrapped with the writings of each member of the family and place them away in a secret spot. Bury them or hide them in the attic, garage or just out of reach, even if only hidden for a few months.

Children grow fast and even the passage of only a few months can show the maturity or the progress in reading and writing for the younger ones. Having something put away of importance is especially fun to get out years later. It shows the priorities in life at the time of doing the time capsule.

On New Year's Eve, gather the family together and play games, eat yummy food and party with each other. Younger kids enjoy the interaction with the older kids. Bring simple pleasures back to your family this year. While having the party, sit with each other and make family resolutions. Write them down and hang them up for all to see. They need to be positive and showing a willingness to improve. While helping the younger children to write down resolutions keep in mind that you want them to aim for goals that are achievable for their young minds and bodies. Goals that are too lofty or set too high can cause distress when they realize the goal cannot be reached. Remember the age of the child and the abilities of each.

As a family set a goal to have a family night each week to spend quality time with each other and get to know each other once again. Read together, play together, study together; be together as a family.

Having a family picnic night can be loads of fun for every member. Set up the family room as the outdoors and spread a blanket on the floor and enjoy a dinner of chips and sandwiches or a BBQ. If chilly outside, sit by the fire and enjoy the crackles and pops of the burning wood as you sit sipping your hot cocoa or cider with each other.
