A Fun and Thankful Family

The year 2001 will go down in history. This Thanksgiving we want our family time to go down in history as well. But our history will be one full of fun and full of joy. This year we are sharing it with family members that are extended beyond extended.

We are spending our Thanksgiving through IS (Instant messenger) with family all the way from Chicago to Salt Lake City to Idaho Falls, Idaho and back again to our humble home in San Diego. Since we can't be together in person we will take this great technology we've been given and use it to our advantage. This will be a joyous occasion as we talk and exchange ideas without racking up our phone bills. We can all chat together one at a time or carry on three or four conversations at once. Sharing ideas for cooking our big roast to sharing desert recipes is a big must.

Game time rolls around and even the little ones can get involved. Card games are played with strategies given by Grandma living in Chicago to little Joe living in San Diego. He wins with those moves. Football cheers are heard from coast to coast as the teams we are cheering for play ball. Dinner is served as we sit around the table. After the blessing on the food we go around the table to let each person say one thing they are most grateful for this year. We read printed out notes of what our “far away” family is grateful for. We are spending time one with another and keeping the tradition going of having a family Thanksgiving dinner.

Even being far away shouldn’t put a sad note in your hat. Technology has made it to where we can enjoy each other and still feel the warmth of family togetherness on special days like this.

Yes, it's Thanksgiving and although we can't be with each individual family member, we are with each other in spirit and typed word. It might seem like a different approach to spending “time” with our family members, but take what is given to us and use it to our benefit. Why? Because life is great and we thank our Heavenly Father for the loved ones we have in our lives. We are ever so grateful they are as close to us as our fingertips. Life has never before seemed as precious to us as it has come to mean this year.
