Hero's In LifeThe day began like any other day in our hectic life. The phone rang and my six year old bolted to answer it before anyone else. It was Uncle Kelly on the other end asking Dallin if he'd like a chance to go visit him this summer on his farm. Oh, like you have to ask a six year old if they want to visit their favorite uncle. This is the uncle who is prayed for every evening by this youngster. This is the uncle who is put right on the same pedestal next to our Prophet: Gordon B. Hinkely. This is the Uncle who has become my six year old's hero. A hero larger than life. Uncle Kelly lives with Aunt Leslie (she sits on the throne next to Uncle on that pedestal) along with their five girls. They have a farm situated on a five acre parcel of land in God's country of Idaho filled with all sorts of farm things. Cows, horses, baby lambs and chicks can be found. Even baby kitties at certain times of the year. One summer visit we found Dallin (the six year old) trying to feed the cows a kittie dinner. What better place than riding a tractor all day in the hay field or sitting next to uncle driving the beat up blue truck hauling hay from across the road can a six year old be than with his hero in life. Hooting and hollering was heard all around our house for the rest of day as we waited for Dad to get home to discuss this possible adventure. The only obstacle was the fifteen hour drive from our city home to the country life. Plans were thought out and reorganized as we tried to come up with a solution of having the trip to "Uncle's" house become a reality. Our eleven year old wasn't about to be left out of this adventure and who's to blame her. I had taken every chance I could get to visit my favorite aunt and uncle when I was a kid. My kids needed this opportunity of visiting without having "the mommy" around. So plans were drawn up to include both children on this wonderful trip. Gas prices forced us to consider the only option of travel would be flying the kids to Idaho. It would cost us double either way and anyone would rather fly and be there the same day than drive and arrive two days later. We checked out the airlines and began making the calls to see about children flying alone. Most of the major airlines were very helpful. We picked a flight time and arrival time and had things set to go by the time the sun set on day.
