Back To School. Can I shout the words any louder or should I give myself a pat on the back that I survived the Summer vacation being a single parent and traveling the Western United States? Whew, that was a long sentence, but I just had to force it out.
We are home from our Summer vacation and dying to get back into school. Really! My kids are bugging me each day for the count down of how many days left before they head on back to school. I guess too much time with Mom can get on their nerves just as too much time with them can get to me. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed the time we spent together and we had the time of our lives visiting with our family and many friends out of state, but we were on the go from the beginning of their break to the last day of their break. We left the "Dad" behind (who would fund our adventurous trip if he came along?) We partied till we dropped and we literally dropped into bed each night exhausted, but we dreamed of our fun filled days. Dad joined us along the way as we ventured to his old neck of the woods for a family reunion of camping in the "woods" with "lions, tigers and bears, OH MY! Well, maybe not lions and tigers that we know of, but we were in bear country as the posted signs warned us to keep all gear tightly sealed in our cars if we were away from camp for a period of time.
Well, needless to say, we made it home safe and sound as the kids kissed the driveway and hugged friends they had left behind for three weeks. Three weeks is a long time to be gone, but a refreshing time.
So, school rolls around and begins and my babies are growing up before my eyes. They are excited for the new school year as my son keeps asking me if he can still play when he gets home from school since he won't be coming home after lunch anymore (he moves onto the first grade this year!)
He is afraid it will be dark when he gets out of school and no time to play. Ooooh, the joys of children and their coveted play time.
We did the school shopping trips while we were on vacation. It's fun getting new clothes from places that aren't familiar to us. The kids think they are coming back home with new fashions to show off. And who cares about taunts I get from close family members about our school shopping trip to the Salvation Army. (But that's another story at another time!)
