We hopped onto our bikes and took a family ride around our neighborhood and across town. It felt good to breathe the fresh air and feel the wind on our faces.
Teaching kids about bike safety can be tricky, but it's important for them to know some of the rules and some of the hazards of riding their bikes. There are more cars now then ever before, with the average of two cars per family up from one car per family thirty years ago; the streets are more dangerous than ever.
Wearing helmets is a key factor, and in some states the law, for children under the age of eighteen. Be careful with smaller infants also.
While taking a family ride, take time to stop and smell the roses. Stop at the baseball park and throw a few. Stop at the park and swing together or roll down the hills. Laugh together while you are out riding and playing. Have some fun. Have races, jump the hills, jump the ditches. Show your kids you remember how to have fun on a bike.
You can even join the American League of Bikers. It's a great organization that gives great pointers and keeps you up to date with all the latest technology for your bikes and for your safety.
So this spring as you are spring cleaning the house and the garage and throwing all that stuff away, get the bikes out and take a break for a family ride. It's great family time and great fun to be out with nature having family fun.
