School Days and Autumn: They Go Hand In Hand

That old song "School days, School days, dear old golden rule days" comes to mind this time of year as the kids head out the door freshly clean with pressed clothes, right off the brand new rack at the store. Spit shined shoes and combed back hair (or spiked hair as the case in my house).

The kids are fresh and raring to go back to their new grade and see just what they can get away with and what they can't. You remember these days all too well. The flood of memories comes roaring through my mind and as soon as the kids walk out the door I reminisce of those days looking through my old photo albums gazing at the first day of school photos my parents took of me each year. I pass this tradition along to my kids as they smile thier toothless smile and grin as big as thier little mouths can grin while they pose for the first day of school shots. It was especially wonderful this year, my five year old was off to school for his first day of kindergarten. He was so proud and happy with his new backpack. I didn't tear up as he went through the big door of his new classroom. I was one of a few moms cheering and clapping as the little ones turned to say their proud goodbyes. (Don't berate us. Life goes on and our kids have to grow up sometime. We all have to grow up sometime. DARN!)
