We welcomed a new addition to our extended family this past week. I'm so happy and I'm so sad at the same time.
It's my sister's first child, born after many years of infertility and eight years of marriage. I couldn't be more thrilled for her husband and her, but I'm so sad because we live eight hundred miles away. How am I going to have my own children grow to know this new cousin of theirs? How will we bond as extended relatives with this new little one? I'm determined to make this happen. I want my children to grow to love this little one even far away. I'm so happy to live in this day and age when computers are such a big part of life for everyone. E-mail is a main stay in many homes and business. Scanners and printers are added accesories to these computers. These are a great additions to any household where pictures can be sent back and forth with a click of a button. Digital cameras are the next best thing to WonderBread. With a click of my mouse, I can send a picture eight hundred miles away in a matter of seconds and I can recieve one just as quickly. We'll hang our first picture of little Hannah on our fridge so my children can see her as they pass by. As the months go by and she continues to grow and change, as newborns seem to do so drastically, we'll keep adding to the pictures on the fridge. When the time comes that we can actually meet this little bundle of joy, we'll know what she looks like and who she looks. (hopefully, not her dad) HA! Just kidding dear brother in law! I'm so grateful for technology. Another idea for the kids to keep far away relatives in mind and in heart, is by putting together photo albums. Scrapbooking has become a major trend lately and I've rolled right along with it. There are so many fun ideas and so many neat things to dress up a plain photo album. I love getting the books out and looking at the kids as they've grown up. The kids love to look at themselves and giggle at silly things they used to do. It's the same with my distant relatives who aren't here on this earth any longer. I want my children to know them just as much as I knew them or as much as I've grown to love them through their own photo from the past. I'm a genealogy nut and love to see old pictures come to life with people I've grown to love through stories I've read and heard. Go To Page: 1 2
