It's the middle of the summer and the kids are begging for "WATER"!

Running through the sprinklers usually does the trick, but every so often everyone needs to submerge themselves head to toe in a pool. Easy enough right? Wrong! Where do you go and who should you go with? In the good old days our parents could just drop us off at the community pool and we swam for the entire day. Water logged and red eyed, we would open the front screen door and venture into the house starving! Why was it that swimming all day made you famished?

Some of my fondest memories as a kid were swimming with my entire family at Park Ro Shay, in the small town of Springville, Utah. We went as a family on Monday evenings. Evenings were so much fun, the pool wasn't crowded and we had room for my dad to throw us into the water! Swimming is a great way for the kids to play with parents!

We live in Southern California and as most of Northern California believes, we all have pools in our backyards. NOT! Not all of us use all the water we steal from Northern California for our swimming pools. We use it for drinking, washing our clothes and showering! I take my kids to the community pool to swim! GASP! I heard that! I had a woman the other day ask how I could even think of taking my kids to the community pool. "Anyone and their dog can swim there," she stated. Hmm...their dog? I haven't seen many dogs in swimming pools lately! Well, I countered her statement with, "what's the difference of taking my kids to a water park, or a water resort?" Doesn't everyone swim there also? Aren't the lakes and river's we water ski in worse? So why not a community pool? It's clean, there are tons of other kids, but there are lifeguards there to keep the rowdy kids under control and to help monitor the diving board. I go to the pool with my kids also. I sit on the side or swim with them and enjoy the sun and fun along side of them.

This site is one of the best I've seen on the Internet about Water safety. Water safety is what it's all about anyway. Teaching our kids
