The Tooth Fairy Lives

Think back to childhood days and try to remember some of the pure pleasures you enjoyed. Was there ever a time you got money for doing nothing? The Tooth Fairy comes to mind, but I didn't just do nothing to get that money. I was in pain for days trying to get that hurtful tooth out of my mouth. I hate surprise injurious events. And what did I get for all that pain? Twenty-five cents. Oh Please! I wanted real cash. Real bucks! But with all the wishing and whining to my parents I still only got twenty five cents a tooth from the tooth fairy. Maybe I should have left her a letter instead of telling my parents. Most kids have some sort of story to tell about their loose teeth.

This past few weeks we have been in the tooth fairy mode because my daughter (Danielle) is in a growing spurt and has lost two teeth. Losing a tooth in our house is a very traumatic and Danielle tries very hard to keep as many as she can in her mouth where she thinks they belong even when they are hanging by a thread. She did a survey in her classroom to get an idea of how much money they would be worth. It was amazing at how much or how little some Tooth Fairies actually pay. We realized that the Tooth Fairy may be a little cheap in our house. Oh well!

Danielle lost her tooth on Thursday morning. She took it to school to show and tell. All the kids wanted her to bring her money from the tooth fairy back to school the next day to share with them. I was trying to figure out how twenty-five cents split amongst thirty kids would be fun for anyone. Well, Thursday night came and she placed her trusty tooth under her pillow and went to sleep. So did everyone else in our household. We all slept soundly that night and in the morning Danielle awoke dismayed to find her tooth still under her pillow with NO MONEY. How could the Tooth Fairy have forgotten her? I felt like a bad parent for letting the Tooth Fairy forget. Didn't I leave the door open for her? Didn't she need more teeth? We tried to console our daughter with all the possible scenarios of what the tooth fairy could have been thinking or going through. We told her to leave her tooth out once again and the Tooth Fairy would for sure find her on Friday. Well, Friday came and yes indeed, the tooth fairy found our house, except, she forgot to take the tooth! We must have a ditz for our Tooth Fairy. Ever heard of an airhead Tooth Fairy? Come to our house to see one. It was a good laugh.
