A Year In The Life (of your family)Easter can be a religious thing AND a fun time. Religion is celebrated in stories of the first Easter and what it's about. Easter egg hunts for the entire neighborhood bring the fun out. Easter Egg hunts for community events can be really fun to attend. May: May Day or Mother's Day, For May 1st, May Day, we bring in large bouquets of flowers for our kitchen table and enjoy the look and aroma of the new season. One year a neighbor friend brought little baskets of treats to her all her friends for May Day as a reminder of renewing friendships. It was a fun surprise. Mother's Day isn't a really big deal, but it's fun. My kids usually bring me breakfast in bed, with the help of dad; burnt toast and cold cereal are my favorite. REALLY! I try to convince myself every year of this and I usually brainwash myself by Mother's day! Memorial day is HUGE... it's the beginning of summer weather, but it's also a time of remembrance. Also known as Decoration Day when I was a kid, we take flowers to the cemetery and talk about loved ones who have passed on. I like to watch the ceremony that takes place at the Unknown Soldier's Tomb. It's quite humbling and inspiring remembering those who died for our country and our freedom. June: Father's Day or Out of School: I try to make this a big deal for my kids because I want them see that birthdays and anniversaries really are big deals. We make Dad breakfast in bed of his favorite breakfast food: German pancakes. We bring him presents in bed and let him sleep to his heart's delight. Dinner is usually his favorite spaghetti served restaurant style with china and candles. Go the whole nine yards! It's a really big deal when school gets out. We party all night long with the kids. We have their favorite family food of homemade pizza with salad and drinks! Then we watch movies one right after another. Usually they fall asleep during the second or third one and they sleep in in the morning. It's great! Ok! Six-months is good start for your FAMILY YEAR. You can celebrate ANY holiday or any day for that matter. You can use anything as an excuse to party with your family! Anytime is family
