A Traditional Christmas


What is a Christmas tradition? Why are so many of our traditions, just that, traditions? What makes for a tradition? Is it something that is handed down over the years from family to family or is it religious? Or is it both, family and religious? What ever the case in your family, traditions are something that are important for the younger children to see, hear and feel. It's the memories of each year that are cherished in a child's mind.

Looking around at your decorations why exactly do you use certain objects each year? Where did the tradition of Christmas trees come from?
How about Mistletoe? Mistletoe is a fun decoration, but where did the tradition for Christmas come from?
How did we get Santa Claus out of Christ's birth? This website it truly wonderful in explaining it all. It makes it so easy to help my children tie in the gift of giving with the birth of Jesus.
I've loved the story of the wise men following the star to Bethlehem. They followed their feelings and followed their dream. We understand the star better and why the wise men followed it.
Have you ever wondered where the Twelve days of Christmas came from? I think you'll be surprised and amazed at how it got involved at Christmas time! These are a few other links of Fun twelve days of Christmas for the entire family. This one even has a Santa's post office!

Music plays a big part of Christmas traditions. My kids love to listen to Handle's Messiah and sing the flowing songs and follow the running music. Listening to the "Messiah" begins our whole Christmas season. We also attend concerts with many traditional Christmas songs. Some even have the audience join in the singing. It's fun! There are many artists who have Christmas music out. It's such a joyous season to share with one another our talents and our gifts!

During this holiday season, take time to explain the yearly traditions to your family. Make memories that are cherised in the minds of your children. After all, Christmas is truly a Family Season! It's a TRADITION!
