TAKE A RIDESummer is gone and autumn is in the air. Football, caramel-covered apples and leaves to roll in. AHHH!! I love this time of year. The kids are off to school every morning. How do your kids get to school? Walking, driving, riding the bus or riding their bikes? Riding a bicycle is fun. The old adage of "once you've learned you never forget" is so true. How long has it been since you've ridden a bike? I don't mean around the block. I mean, actually gotten on the bicycle and taken it for a good, long ride. Did your legs cramp up around the first corner? Did you lose your breath as you rode up the first small incline? Were your legs so rubbery when you got off that you could barely stand? That was my reaction. I hadn't ridden a bike for awhile and I knew my body would protest for the next few days, but how do I say "NO" when my kids are looking forlorn with pleading eyes "ride with us, ride with us"? Oh, all right! We got the bikes out and found there were flat tires to be repaired and handle bars to be adjusted. Bike repairs are the worst, but I learned how to do them good and cheap. I found this site intriguing and very useful. The next thing I had to do was check the bike helmets my children had. Were they up to par and what exactly was the law regarding bike helmets? This site is the most useful I have found yet: Every state law you ever needed to know. Do you want kiddie trailers, night lights, or ideas on theft safety or maybe just some ideas on what clothing to wear to look cool while you cycle on down the road? I've learned anything looks good when you are dying for water and you round that last corner closer to home. So now that you are ready to hit the pavement riding your newly repaired bike, looking way cool in your bicycle outfit with the kids in tow or just alone, watch out for cars and be safe. I can't stress that enough,
