I Feel So Good About Me! Self esteem

Many conditions of human existence tend to destroy self esteem. Some of these are emotional, some spiritual, and some physical, economic or chemical. Again, as the congregations works to carry out its mission, it is important to choose styles and experiences that will support Christ's mission in every way. This includes building self esteem..

10. ____/____ Self Esteem

There is strong internal unearned value which people hold of themselves. The people have a strong sense of their own Self Esteem. The people also have a conscious drive toward building the Self Esteem of others in the community and in the whole world. This is built from a lifetime of assurance both that they are capable of coping with life and that they know they are loved by the Lord and other people. They know the Lord takes an active role in their support and in the bettering of their lives.

The twentieth century was a century of revolutions. Some revolutions were military, some religious, some technological, some visionary. In some, the fighters could only see a change in their visions for the possible future.

More than anything else, this display of vision shift for the world reflected a move toward a personal sense of worth and self esteem. For the first time billions of people sensed that what they thought and did actually had some meaning. Prior to that century, the masses went through their lives without a sense that their lives mattered to anyone, even themselves.

With the advent of massive literacy activity, democracy was finally able to gain a real foothold in the world. Even the lowest ranking citizens of the world fell heir to knowledge of international activity and its repercussions. With the advent now of the internet and instant polling, the citizen who chooses can literally evaluate and vote on dozens of important issues every day.

The faith revolutions of England and Europe throughout the 19th and 20th centuries were major players in this change. Democracy itself was enhanced and pushed ahead as a direct result of theological self esteem and literacy technology. Historical insight spawns revolution.

Questions to help us evaluate ourselves:

*In our community, do we encourage persons to participate at the strongest levels of government, industry and community?

*Do we help our people understand the importance of their contributions to the world order?

*Does the Church lead persons into systems that make it possible to take personal democratic responsibility for the world?
