Transform yourself into a mummy this Halloween. All you'll need is an old white sheet or a length of white cloth and some white tape. Don't use an expensive sheet or buy fine white linen, as you're going to rip it up! You'll also need some white tape to stick the cloth in place; use something heavy-duty so it'll last the whole evening.
What you wear underneath your costume will depend on the weather on Halloween day, and where you live. If it's somewhere sunny, then a pair of white shorts or stockings and possibly a long-sleeve white t-shirt will do. If it's cold, you'll want to find something that's warmer but still white. Tear the sheet into two-inch strips; the longer the strips the better. Don't cut the fabric as you want the edges to be frayed. Make a small cut with a pair of scissors, then rip the fabric apart; it'll tear in a straight line along the thread. Tape one end of the strip to your clothes, then wind it around your body, taping or knotting the end in place too. Don't do it too tightly; you still need to be able to move and you don't want to cut off the blood supply to your arms or legs! When you wrap your head, remember to leave spaces so you can see where you're going, breathe and, if you want, speak and eat! To make fairy wings, you need some wire, a pair of stockings, some tape, and a piece of elastic or ribbon. Optional extras include glitter and tinsel for trimmings. The ideal wire is one that's quite stiff so the wings won't get bent out of shape while they're being worn. Use a pair of pliers to bend it if necessary. Cut a long piece (the length depends on the size of your fairy-to-be) and fold it in half. Make a loop or twist at the bend and then fold the ends around and hook them into this twist (pliers make this much easier). Avoid having any sharp ends sticking out and cover the ends with tape if necessary. This gives you two large loops joined at the centre. Bend the wings into whatever shape you desire. Now stretch a leg from the stockings over each wing; cut off the excess and knot the stocking in place. Stick some glitter on the wings and sew or stick a piece of tinsel along the edge. Tie two loops of elastic or ribbon to the centre of the wings; your fairy will put their arms through these and wear the wings like a backpack. As elastic stretches, your fairy should be able to get the wings on or off themselves; with ribbon you may need to tie it in place to ensure the wings are in the right position. Go To Page: 1 2
