Link collection: patterns and gift ideas

There are less than eight weeks to go until Christmas, so if you aren't already sewing away on your gifts, here's a collection of links to patterns and quilting blocks to give you some ideas. And if you've too many people to make things for, there're also some links to presents to buy.

First the projects/designs:

Quilt for a doll with step-by-step instructions, ideal for a first-time quilter.

Wall hanging: First Day of School.

Quilted fish placemats.

Kaleidoscope pinwheel quilt pattern.

Farmyard sampler with great country life blocks to download, including a cow and goat.

Christmas quilting blocks of baubels and stars.

Big Chicken quilting block, apparently classic Americana in Marietta Georgia, certainly fun for everyone.

Rip-it the Frog Block for paper piecing.

Machine embroidery designs to download:

Secrets of machine embroidery

A collection of free designs from Jan Boggan

If you want more, visit the Free Embroidery Designs Web Ring.

If your kids want to help, here are some projects designed for them:

Xmas tree ball ornaments

Fancy pencil holder

Small treasure box

Woven friendship bracelet

Spider web wall hanging.

Finally, remember to make something special for yourself too. All you need are between five and fifteen minutes a day the fortnight leading up to Christmas to make this Countdown to Christmas, a mystery quilt.

If you're all sewn-out, or your machine breaks down from all the hard work, here are some gifts you can buy:

Quilter's jelly, quilt block patterns packaged in pint jelly jars. Each kit includes a handmade block, instructions, and fabric to make eight more blocks.

Quilt magnets

Scissor tails

Escaping Bugs Bottle quilt kit or pattern (take a look at the fun, finished quilt even if you've no intention of buying the kit).

Have a great festive season!
