Xmas is a time for giving ... and getting

In pre-web days there were two routes for trying to ensure you received what you really wanted for Xmas: the subtle and the unsubtle. The former, required months of work, the dropping of repeated hints, cutting out suitable adverts to be "accidentally" left lying around, and dragging the relevant people window shopping in the right places so they knew where they could find the items concerned. The latter was to simply buy it yourself, wrap it up yourself and then pass it to the person who was supposed to give it to you. The danger with the former was that present-buyers could forget where the relevant items could be obtained or misunderstand your hints and then get hurt if you told them it wasn't what you wanted. And with the latter, people generally complain that the present won't be a surprise! (They never seem to understand that it will be: the surprise is that you actually get what you want.) Bring on the internet: now you can draw up a wish list, email it to a suitable present-buyer and they've no excuses. They know exactly what you want, where to get it, don't have to brave Xmas-shopping crowds, can get it gift wrapped and delivered to the door. The only thing you might still need to do is to check whether they've any space left on their credit card! So where to go shopping? There's several general stores e.g. wishclick.com, wishworld.com, or etoys.com for kids of all ages, not to forget the inevitable amazon.com for your books. Quilting publisher C&T Publishing have been quick to recognize the potential of on-line shopping and have set up their own wish list service on their site. I'm hoping that next Xmas fabric sellers will have done the same.
