Christmas in September© Marion

If you're thinking of making gifts for family and friends this Christmas, you'd better make a start soon, Christmas is closer than you think. The question of what to make can be a tricky one. I've one friend who recently said that he doesn't need (or want) another shirt, waistcoat, pillow case or duvet cover as he hasn't worn out those I've already made him. Little does he know that I've many other patterns up my sleeves, so he could be getting a hat, or a bag, or possibly even a rag rug. Here are a mixture of websites I've recently discovered that may help you on your way:
1. Print out a blank quilt labels and transfer to fabric so your work will be known as yours even after you've parted company with it.
2. Quilter's Squares will sell you as little as one 11 x 12 inch square of fabric hand-painted to the colour you need. Have a look at the examples of what variety is available.
3. A great article on colour theory if you feel your instinctive treatment of colour doesn't quite work.
4. How careful consideration of how you cut out your fabric can create kaleidoscope star blocks rather than just busy stars.
5. Assorted free cloth doll patterns to try. And here are some pages if you're looking for inspiration or to treat yourself:
1. Photos of work by various European quilters.
2. A perspective quilt from Maths Quilts.
3. Mail order Japanese fabrics direct from Japan.
4. Curl up with a good read at the end of a busy day with fiction books on quilting fiction.
5. An I-spy quilt that may take you hours to make, but will provide many, many more hours of fun. Let's get festive!
