PEACE ON EARTH

Joy and Susie, Christmas 2002

I thought of how much she loved me and how much I loved her, and suddenly felt sad for whoever abandoned her as a puppy, for they hadn't known that special love in their heart. Susie was full of love but, they, whoever they were, must have had an empty heart, incapable of receiving that love; an unfeeling heart, incapable of knowing that special bond. And that's sad.

We continued our trek down Main Street. A huge cedar in the plaza sparkled with lights and shiny decorations, and even the downtown buildings were dazzling in their Christmas array. One building in particular bore the message in lights, "Peace on Earth".

Peace... for Christmas is the celebration of the birth of the Prince of Peace. Peace...one day to be fulfilled. Those with empty, unfeeling hearts will then know love, and the victims of those with empty, unfeeling hearts will no longer suffer for "God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." Rev. 21:4. Peace...the whole message of Christmas.

We turned two corners and neared the end of the parade route. As the lights and waving crowds faded behind us, Susie looked up at me with her big brown eyes and I knew she was saying, "Hey Mom, that was fun!" Smiling, I scooped her up and snuggled her in my arms all the way back to our van. What a lovely, magical evening!

********** May you and yours know the blessed peace of Christmas this season! **********
